Self Help Guide To
HINDUISM
Hinduism,
in it's true meaning, is not actually a religion but a philosophy or
great wisdom teaching the ultimate reality of life and the universe. It
does not suggest anyone to follow a set of rules and principles and to
become separate from others who are not Hindus but more so to accept
everything as one and a part of themselves.
Other dogmatic
religions such as Christianity
and Islam teach their followers to
separate themselves from non-believers of their religion and abide by
doctrines written in their holy books of which is only their own
understanding and interpretation.
Hinduism promotes peace and equality within human beings and a oneness
with the Earth.
Hinduism has one of the oldest
scriptures in history and teaches solely the true nature of your being
and what and who you really are. There are many ancient
scriptures of Hinduism in India such as from The Vedas, The
Upanishads,
The
Ramayana, The Bhagavad Gita and The Mahabharata. All of which teach the
same philosophies that you and I and God/Universal
Force are one.
Hinduism
teaches that the soul or spirit,
which is the essence of our
life,
is the equivalent of God/Universal Force and so you also are the
equivalent of God/Universal Force. If everyone is equivalent
to this
power then there can not be any separation.
There are many Hindu
Deities, in their thousands, that are seen as Gods but they are all
different aspects of the one absolute God/Universal Force. The true
meaning of having so many deities is that they represent all the
elements of life and the universe and so confirming that God didn't make
everything, God
became everything.
Hinduism
teaches absolute truth and knowledge and if accepted gives a person
greater understanding of how to live a life of fulfillment.
Here
are some powerful quotes taken from the ancient Hindu scriptures and
philosophers of India.
Quotes of Hinduism
"Cling to
the feet Master who can introduce you to yourself."
"The
Self is everywhere. Whoever sees all Beings in the Self, and the Self
in all Beings hates none. For one who sees oneness everywhere, how can
there be delusion or grief?"
"You are at
one with the universe. He
who says he is different from others, even by a hairs breadth,
immediately becomes miserable. Happiness belongs to him who knows this
oneness, who knows he is one with the universe."
"All the
powers in the universe are already ours, it is we who have put our
hands before our eyes and cry that it is dark"
"That which
is the finest essence - this whole world has that as it's Soul. That is
reality. That is Atman. That are thou."
"As
the air is
everywhere, flowing around a pot and filling it, so God is
everywhere, filling all things and flowing through them forever."
"Prosperity is not for the envious, Nor is
greatness for men of impure conduct."
"Pitiful is the one who, fearing failure, makes no
beginning."
"A
poor devotee points to the sky and says "God is up there." An average
devotee says, "God dwells in the heart as the Inner Master." The best
devotee says, "God alone is and everything I perceive is a form of God."
"They
who are free from pride and delusion, who have no attachments, who are
absorbed in spiritual pursuits, who are free from all worldly desires,
who are unaffected by the varying situations of pleasurable and painful
nature - such persons, freed from ignorances, attain to the Eternal
State."
"O
Krishna, the stillness of divine union which you describe is beyond
my comprehension. How can the mind, which is so restless, attain
lasting peace? Krishna, the mind is restless, turbulent, powerful,
violent; trying to control it is like trying to tame the wind."
"Even as birds, o beloved, return to
their tree for rest, thus all things find their rest in Atman, the
Supreme Spirit. All things find their final peace in their final inmost
Self, the Spirit."
"Where
there is joy there is creation. Where there is no joy there is no
creation: know the nature of joy."
"As
one acts and conducts himself, so does he become.
The doer of good becomes good. The doer of evil becomes evil. One
becomes virtuous by virtuous action, bad by bad action."
"It is not
the language but the speaker that we want to understand."
"When all
the senses are stilled, when the mind is at rest, when the
intellect wavers not--then, say the wise, is reached the highest state."
"Having the Kingdom of Heaven within you, you have no right to suffer
in life, you only have to enjoy the grace of God."
"The person
desirous of success and strength should perform good karma
continuously."
"As only I know the contents of my consciousness and as an outside
"world is unprovable, all perceivable are only in the mind.
"What
changes has no reality, time and space are imagined ways of thinking,
modes of perception. Only timeless reality is, and it is here and now."
"See that happiness is not pleasure; see that desires and fear create
bondage; and be free and happy through detachment."
"You will receive everything you need when you stop asking for what you
do not need."
"Suffering is exclusively the result of attachment or resistance, it is
a sign of lacking readiness to go on, to flow with life."
"Nothing is done by me, everything just happens, I do not expect, I do
not plan."
"I just watch events happening, knowing them to be unreal."
"Fear and greed cause the misuse of the mind. The right use of mind is
in the service of love, of life, of truth, of beauty."
"There is no chaos in the world, except the chaos which your mind
creates."
Hinduism can be seen as a 'way of life' as expressed through these quotations.
